Sometimes I think twice about printing a receipt for my gas. Usually, those receipts just end junking up my wallet or crumbled at the bottom of my pocket anyway, until it is eventually filed.
However, after reading a Chris Walter’s story, I believe I will always print that gas receipt in case I wind up in a similar situation.
Chris’s Story
Recently, Chris paid for his fuel at a local gas station with a debit or credit card. Then, he went in to purchase a soft drink. The cashier asked was there anything else that he wanted to buy, and Chris said no.
Afterwards, he was on his way, and not more than 20 seconds later, he was pulled over by a cop. The cop said that he was being accused of driving off without paying for his gas. Fortunately for Chris, he printed his receipt. He printed the receipt, showed it to the officer who apologized, and went along his way… swearing to never go to that gas station again.
Driving Off Without Paying At the Pump
Surprisingly, not all gas stations have the technology to require payment before someone receives gas. Recently, there have been an increased number of individuals deliberately driving off without paying at the pump. Perhaps, this gas station was hit earlier that day. For example, whether it was the gas station attendant who called the policeman to stop his car a similar vehicle remains unknown.
Regardless, his story might have been dramatically different without that 3×1 strip of paper.
